The peacock’s honk
February 22, 2017
It was getting warmer and I was planning to leave Arogyadham when I heard a loud noise. It was loud and ugly: like a donkey’s bray. I ignored it. But then I heard it again. It was like a noisy horn- the kind kids play with on Holi. Who was it in this wilderness? I tried looking around and then caught sight of the movement on a tree. A peacock!!! Such an unexpected sighting and that too for several minutes.
Now I do know a peacock’s call. It goes somewhat like pia-ow. But this was different. I came back and read on Google that peacocks honk when they are agitated. I have put a youtube link for you to hear what I did. Whoever thought such a beautiful bird would have such an ugly voice!
